Redfox:  Most frequent diseases.   Vet Dr. Tigre gives information and advice.
redfoxes most frequent diseases       The main enemy of the fox nowadays is the human being.       Natural enemies like the wolf, the eagle owl and the eagle       have disappeared all over wide areas. It is not evidently a fact       that the lynx kills foxes. In Switzerland a number of       approximately 6'000 foxes are being killed every year. About       6'000 foxes yearly fall victim of road traffic. Endangered to be       killed are above all the migrating young animals. Hunting and       traffic all in all do, however, not have any limited effect on the       stock of foxes. The density of foxes has been in a steady       growth these last decades apart from serious losses caused       by rabies in certain years.

The life expectation is only 1 to 2 years, although a fox can reach an age of 8 to 10 years. An increase in the density of foxes and with that also a deeper aggressiveness in fighting for the resources essential to life may cause a severe spread of rabies, for rabies is transmitted only by direct contact. More male foxes die from rabies than vixen. Together with the hare, the roe deer and the hedgehog a steadily increasing number of foxes fall victim of road traffic.
