Redfox:  Animal behaviour and problems.

foxes animal behaviour and problems       General information

We know the fox from many fables and fairytales as a sly and       cunning animal. His great adaptability has helped him to have       this reputation. Since he places very special demands on his       environment, he lives almost everywhere: In the forest, in       parks, even in the gardens of the cities.

Besides the lynx, the fox is the biggest living predator in our       regions.
Social behaviour
Foxes live in restricted areas, as a rule faithfully for a lifetime. They get along well together if the essential to life is available in their area and the fox density does not represent a problem. In England, there are 10 animals living within an area of 1 square kilometre which leads to the fact that the foxes become cantankerous and defend their territory. In the mating season there might be fights between males in order to find out who is alllowed to mate with a vixen. After the litter of the cubs, the family lives together up to the time when the young foxes leave their parents in the fall. Before this happens, the cubs play together and learn from their mother how a respectable fox should behave and hunt successfully.
